GridSeries: Communities is an interactive art collaboration by Kate Snow and Eagan Rackley.

This app allows multiple users to connect to, edit, and capture images from a digital representation of work by Kate Snow (http://katesnow.work) which will be on display for the Spotlight show at Heights Arts Gallery in Ohio, and the Digitalia show at the Barret Art Center in New York. Users can modify the piece being displayed in each gallery at any time, regardless of their location.

Once the shows have closed users will then be allowed to connect to each other to continue contributing to the online gallery (A Mac and PC download will be available at KateSnow.work after the shows close).

Directions:
When the app starts, wait for the "Connecting" screen to complete establishing a connection to the server (if this doesnt happen, check your internet connection). Once connected, users will see a palette of colors on the left side of the screen, the digital piece in the center, and a camera icon on the right. Users may then click a color and modify the piece, or click the camera to upload a screen shot to the artist site (http://katesnow.work/grid-series-communities/). The app also allows users to pinch the screen to zoom or pan for a closer view.

Artist Statement:
While global reach has innumerable benefits, one of the unintended consequences is the increased feeling of isolation: when we live everywhere, our home is nowhere. For this reason our immediate communities are more important than ever. However we define them, communities group us, ground us, and provide us with a sense of security and identity. This show, Grid Series: Communities, seeks to explore and celebrate not only the physical communities we inhabit, but also the seemingly disparate communities of fine art and digital media by providing a platform for engagement and interaction. Through the incorporation of digital media, Grid Series: Communities also calls in to question the role of space and physical proximity with regard to community, how we view ourselves within that context, and whether shared experience facilitates that connection in a meaningful way.
